Creating or Modifying E-Mail Settings

The directions below are for our customers that need assistance with creating a new profile or a second e-mail profile for the temporary download of mail from the original mail server.

Directions For Configuring An E-Mail Profile
    Outlook Express
  • Step 1: Open Outlook Express.
  • Step 2: Left click on Tools at the top and left click on Accounts.
  • Step 3: Click on the Mail tab.
  • Step 4: Under account, highlight the Shawneelink account and then click on Properties.
  • Step 5: On the General tab where it states 'type a name by which you refer to these servers' should read mail.shawneelink.net.
  • Step 6: For Name-this can be your first name, last name or full name.
  • Step 7: It should read username@shawneelink.net for the Email Address. (substitute username with your username) **If you make any changes, make sure you click Apply before closing the screen!**
  • Step 8: Then click on the Server tab. At the top, it should read My incoming mail server is a POP3 server.
  • Step 9: The incoming mail server needs to be mail.shawneelink.net and the outgoing mail server should be smtp.shawneelink.net.
  • Step 10: The account name should be your username and then it will have your password. (The username should be in lowercase letters and the password should be in caps.) **If you make any changes, make sure you click Apply!**
  • Step 11: Click OK and then click Close.

    Netscape Communicator
  • Step 1: Open Netscape Communicator.
  • Step 2: Click on Edit and then left click on Preferences.
  • Step 3: Locate Mail & Groups. If there is a plus sign beside it then click on it once to turn it into a minus sign.
  • Step 4: Click on Identity. In the field labeled Your Name, it can have your first name, last name or your full name. For the Email Address it should read username@shawneelink.net. (substitute username with your username)
  • Step 5: Then click Mail Server. Mail server username should be your username (in lowercase letters). The Outgoing mail server should read smtp.shawneelink.net and the incoming mail server should read mail.shawneelink.net.
  • Step 6: The Mail Server Type should read POP3.
  • Step 7: If all of this information is correct then click OK.

    Eudora 5.1
  • Step 1: Open Eudora.
  • Step 2: Click on Tool and then left click on Options.
  • Step 3: Under Category, click on Getting Started and for Real Name it can have you first name, last name or your full name. The Return address should read username@shawneelink.net. (substitute username with your username). The Mail Server (Incoming) should read mail.shawneelink.net. The Login Name should be your username and SMTP Server (Outgoing) should read smtp.shawneelink.net.
  • Step 4: Under category, click on Checking Mail. The Mail Server (Incoming)should read mail.shawneelink.net and the Login name should be your username.
  • Step 5: Under Category click on Sending mail and the Return address should read username@shawneelink.net and the SMTP Server (Outgoing) should read smtp.shawneelink.net.
  • Step 6: If all settings are correct then click OK.

Directions For Configuring A Temporary or Second Profile

    Setting up a second account in Outlook Express
  • Step 1: Open Outlook Express.
  • Step 2: Click on tools, accounts, and then the mail tab.
  • Step 3: Click on Add and then mail and the mail wizard will open.
  • Step 4: The display name can be your first name, last name or your full name and then click next.
  • Step 5: Place a dot beside I already have an email account that I'd like to use and type in username@shawneelink.net (substitute username with your username) and click next.
  • Step 6: At the top it should read my incoming mail server is a POP3 server. For incoming mail type in mail2.shawneelink.net and the outgoing mail server you should type smtp.shawneelink.net and click next.
  • Step 7: The account name should be your username (in lowercase letters) and any letters in the password should be in caps. Click next.
  • Step 8: Click finish and you have set up the account for the reserve mail.

    Setting up a second account in Netscape Communicator
  • Step 1: Click on Start, Programs, Netscape Communicator, and then click on utilities.
  • Step 2: Next you should click on user profile manager.
  • Step 3: The user profile wizard is going to open and you should click on new. This will open the profile wizard and you need to click next.
  • Step 4: Type your first name, last name or your full name and email address of username@shawneelink.net (substitute username with your username) and then click next.
  • Step 5: The system is going to verify the profile name and click next.
  • Step 6: The outgoing mail server is going to be smtp.shawneelink.net and click next.
  • Step 7: The system is going to prompt you for your username. Type in the username (not the email address). The incoming mail server should be mail2.shawneelink.net. Make sure the mail server type is POP3.
  • Step 8: Click finish and the account for the reserve mail has been set up.

    Setting up a second account in Eudora 5.1
  • Step 1: Open Eudora.
  • Step 2: Click on tools and left click on personalities.
  • Step 3: On the right-hand side of the screen you will see the personality that you've created. Right click on the personality and left click on properties.
  • Step 4: The real name can be your first name, last name or your full name.
  • Step 5: Your email address should be username@shawneelink.net (substitute username with your username). The return address should be username@shawneelink.net. (substitute username with your username)
  • Step 6: The login name should be your username and the SMTP server should be smtp.shawneelink.net.
  • Step 7: Click on the incoming tab at the top and place mail2.shawneelink.net where it states server.
  • Step 8: Click OK and you have created the account for your reserve email.
