Hopewell United Baptist Church

"The center of the long frame building for Hopewell Baptist Church (now Ozark) was where the east fence of the Rushing Cemetery now is (1881 - 1891). I copied this from the record books in Vienna in 1961.
Grantors: Mary Rushing, Philander Rushing, Joseph W. Rushing and Nancy Jane Rushing, and Calvin G. Rushing.

Lizzie Chester Morris at the age of 92 remembered attending Hopewell which was organized in 1860. It stood directly north of the present Ozark church. It is said that Rev. James L. Morton was the first pastor. He was a man of means and owned a great amount of land, the first threshing machine in that area and was the first post-master at Ozark in 1888. He preached for 75 years and died in 1904 at the age of 95. He is buried in the old part of the Robinson Cemetery, last rock north and third row from the east."
