Simmons, William Calvin
W.C. Simmons of Flatwoods Passes Away Thursday----------Highly
Respected
Farmer Dies After Months of Suffering-------
William Calvin Simmons, son of Lewis and Catherine Simmons was
born
November 2, 1866. Died Jan. 27, 1938 at the age of 71 years, 2
months and 25 days.
Funeral services were held at County Line church Sunday afternoon,
conducted by Rev. Chas. E. Green, after which the remains were
laid to rest in the Kerley cemetery to await the coming again
of Him, who doeth all things well.
Mr. Simmons was married to Mindozia Scott May 26, 1892, and to
this union
five children were born. Telsa of Bowen, Ill.; Louie of Flatwoods;
Dorothy Grant of
Golconda; Velma Wuest of East Peoria, Ill.; and Opha Grant of
East St. Louis. He
had four sisters, Mrs. T.B. Kerley of Simpson; Mrs. Leora Morris
of Flatwoods;
Mrs Louisa McKee of-----(?) and an infant, who preceded him in
death. He was
converted and united with the County Line Missionary Church Nov.
13, 1897,
where he remained until his death. On November 14, 1897, he was
ordained a
deacon, his father and grandfather being ordained deacons of the
same church,
which makes a record the entire family can be proud of.
Uncle Calvin as he was familiarly called, when a boy at home with
his
parents, was ever attentive to the affairs of the home and readily
sacrificed his
boyish pleasures to help the family and the church, he lived the
part of a practical Christian and was always ready to help in
church affairs. In his family he daily observed a well organized
form of reverence, modesty, but bravely reminding his family of
his loyalty to the church and his faith in his God. He was a great
part of his home and family and will be greatly missed by his
neighbors and friends. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife,
5 children and 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild, a number
of relatives and friends.
