Allie Whiteside Lauderdale
"Wherever I may be, through whatever
worlds I may be led, I know that I shall forever remain in the
hands of the Father who brought me hither, and calls me further
on."
After an illness of many weeks' duration, one of our most dearly
beloved and worthy friend answered her call and entered into an
eternal sleep, October 16, 1956..
Allie Whiteside Lauderdale daughter of Rev. James and Mrs. Whiteside,
was born in Pope County, near Eddyville, Ill., March 21, 1874.
She grew to womanhood in the rural area and spent her entire
life there.
In the year of 1891, she was united in marriage to Thomas A. Lauderdale,
and for more than 58 years shared their lives together in a companionship
that exemplified a perfect marriage. This happy marriage was
blessed with six children: Mrs. Ivy Moseman and Ray Lauderdale,
Elgin, Ill., Joyce Lauderdale, Lincoln, Ill., and Mrs. Helen Wright,
Golconda; two daughters, Orpha and Gladys preceded their mother
in death.
Death entered the home and deprived her of her loving companion,
August 30, 1949. Since that time she has resided with her children,
each eagerly anticipating the time when mother would come to their
home.
In early girlhood she recognized her need for God and His teachings.
At the time of her death she was a devoted member of the Mt.
Zion Baptist church.
She leaves to mourn her passing her four loving children, one
aged brother, Rev. Charles Whiteside, St. Petersburg, Fla.,; seven
grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 18,
at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joe A. Baker officiating.
Burial was in nearby cemetery with Rottman Funeral service, Golconda,
in charge of arrangements.
Singers were: Omar Robinson, Eula Barger, Lola King and Rev.
Virgil Smith. Pianist was Gladys Baker. Songs were: "Going
Down the Valley," "Rock of Ages'" "Empty
Mansions."
Pallbearers were: Russell Baker, Clarence Sumners, Howard Wright,
Alvie Parmley, Elbert Elam, and Harold Kerley.
Flower girls were ladies of Mt. Zion Baptist church.
