Mary Elizabeth Austin, daughter of Perry and Elizabeth Farmer,
was born September 13, 1842; died July 6, 1921, aged 78 years,9
months and 23 days, death coming to her suddenly and peacefully.
She was married to Thomas Austin October 7, 1858. She was his
devoted companion for sixty years, and was the mother of 9 children,
namely: Shade, Milo, Julia, Malachi, Annie, Missouri, Susan,
Minnie and Estella, all of whom survive her except Missouri, who
passed from this life at the age of 22.
"Aunt Betty" as she was commonly known, was a member
of the Mt. Zion Church for 53 years.
She leaves 1 sister, Mrs. Pleas Austin, of this place, and 1 brother,
John Farmer, of Kingfisher, Okla., 30 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Her remains were laid to rest in Mt. Zion Cemetery, July 8, after
the funeral services by Rev. J. R. Steagall and Rev. J. A. Whiteside.
