Carlos Edward Schoettle

Carlos Edward Schoettle was born to Carl and Flora Walter Shoettle on October 17, 1917 near Brownfield, Illinois. He died January 1, 1973 at Henderson, Texas. He attended elementary schools in Pope County, and graduated as Salutatorian of the Class of 1936 from the Golconda Community High School. He attended Southern Illinois
University, graduating in 1947, after serving his country in the United States and the European Theater during World War 11 for more than four years. He received his doctorate in Animal Husbandry from the University of Illinois in 1955.
On May 1, 1943 he was united in marriage to Kathleen Lauderdale in St. Charles, Mo. To this union were born one son and two daughters: Ronald Edward, who died soon after birth, Phyllis Kay and Mary Ellen.
His life-long teaching career began when he taught Agriculture to veterans returning from World War 11. For the past 17 1/2 years he taught at Texas A and I University, Kingsville, Texas, where he was an associate professor in the School of Agriculture.
He was baptized as an infant, and as a youth confirmed his faith by becoming a member of the Waltersburg Methodist Church, Pope County, Illinois. Though separated by many miles, his deep interest in this church and its activities continued throughout his life.
Survivors include: wife, Kathleen; daughters, Phyllis Spencer, Peoria, Illinois; Mary Ellen Schoettle, Kingsville, Texas; father, Mr. Carl Schoettle, Metropolis, Illinois; brother, Mr. Ralph Schoettle, Highland, Indiana; granddaughters, Cheryl Christine and Deborah Lee Spencer and son-in-law, Dr. John Spencer, Peoria, Illinois and a host of relatives and friends.
