Cora June Clemens
Mrs. Cora Jane Clemens, 84, dies at the Paducah Nursing
Home on Thursday, December 19. She had been in failing health
for some time in her advanced years.
She was born in Dixon Springs, Illinois September 18, 1879, daughter
of Thomas Marion and Elizabeth Allen Modglin.
She was married to Isaac Newton Clemens December 8, 1896. She
and Mr. Clemens owned and operated a general store at Dixon Springs
for twenty-five years. In addition to running the store, he was
postmaster at that place for a number of years. Mr. Clemens was
also a prominent farmer and carried on quite an extensive farming
operation in addition to his other duties. Mr. Clemens is deceased.
He died in 1954.
Surviving Mrs. Clemens are two sons, J. Dewey Clemens, Ardmore,
Okla.; Russell L. Clemens, Dixon Springs, Ill.; two daughters,
Mrs. Ina Walker, Vienna; Mrs. Roy C. Manchester, Paducah, Ky.;
eight grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Clemens was an active member of the Dixon Springs Baptist
church and a member of the Pope County Homemakers organization.
Funeral services were held at the Rottman Funeral Home in Golconda
Friday, December 20 with Bro. Louie Simmons officiating. Interment
followed in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Golconda. ( Rock was located
on the Golconda Rural Route 2 ).
