Cora Mae Abbott
Cora Mae Abbott, daughter of Louis and Arsula Weike, was
born in Johnson County, Ill., January 10, 1878. Only a few days
after her birth she was deprived of her parents. For nine years
she was cared for by foster parents, eventually making her home
with her sister until May 24, 1896, when she was married to S.
W. Abbott.
A happy home was created and a family of four children blessed
this union.
All through the years that followed Mrs. Abbott proved herself
a happy wife, a mother that won the love and affection of worthy
children, an esteemed neighbor and constant friend. Her devotion
to her husband, who for a number of years has been in declining
health, is worthy of praise and admiration.
At the age of 23, she professed her faith in God's Holy teachings,
and joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and this faith assisted
her in the many trials that comes to all. She remained a constant
Christian until God called her home on November 9, 1942, having
reached the age of 64 years, 9 months and 29 days.
Those of her loved ones that survive, Myrtle Sistler, of Golconda;
Jessie Voslow, of Brownfield and Lola Gille of Peoria, Ill.,
an only son, Earl of Golconda, and six grandchildren, one sister,
Mrs. Louisa Anderson of Hardy, Arkansas, and many other relatives.
