James Elbert Slack
James Elbert Slack was born in Saline county near Harrisburg,
Ill., Dec. 26, 1875. Death came to him on August 27, 1954 at
the age of 78 years, 8 months and 1 day.
In the year of 1909 he was united in marriage to Grace Lauderdale,
who survives. To this union eight children were born: Three sons,
Lewis of Golconda, Merrill, West Vienna, Coy of Benton, Ky.,
and five daughters: Golda Gibson of Golconda, Jewell Stuteville
of Alton, Marian Nave and Jane Barger of Golconda. Also surviving
are thirteen grandchildren and many other relatives and friends
are saddened by his passing.
Sometime ago he professed faith in Christ as his Saviour and united
with the Homberg Baptist church. He was known as a kind and loving
husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family, friends
and loved ones.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Aug. 29 at 2:00 p.
m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. John L. Cox,
burial was in the church cemetery with Buchanan Funeral Home of
Golconda in charge.
Pallbearers were: James Eleam, Willis Eleam, Charles Clanahan,
Harold Clanahan, Robie Eleam, and Virgil Sullivan.
