Mary Sistler Barger

Mrs. Mary Sistler Barger the daughter of William and Amanda Brush, was born near Glendale, Ill., September 5, 1873. Her stay here spanned 76 years, three months and 28 days.
On May 5, 1889 she was married to James W. Sistler. To this happy union six children came to bless and cherish their home. Namely: William Sistler, of Pleasantville, New Jersey. Alma Hertter, of Elgin, Ill., John Sistler, of Brownfield, Ill., Amanda Dehn, of Belleville, Ill., Theodore R. Sistler of Elgin, Ill., Roy, dying in infancy.
Besides the children, "Aunt Mary" as she was commonly called, leaves to mourn her passing one brother, Alonzo Brush of Golconda, Ill., a sister, Mrs. Belle Estes of Harrisburg, Ill., sixteen grandchildren.
"Aunt Mary" was left a lonely widow twice, after the passing of "Uncle Jim" she bore all hardships alone four years, then was married to James W. Shufflebarger. Since the death of Mr. Barger, December 23, 1947, her life has been spent alone, except when her children and neighbors came in to fill and cheer a vacant corner.
At an early age she saw the need of Divine power, and made peace with God. United with the Glendale Methodist church, later years moved her membership and joined the Mt. Zion Baptist church, where she remained a member until about two years ago, when she moved her membership to the Eddyville Baptist church.
