Alonzo Butler, son of the late Samuel and Polly Butler,
was born near Brownfield and departed this life November 27, 1960
at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky., at the age of 90
years, 1 month and 6 days.
He was united in marriage to Ocie Ditterline on November 24, 1898
and to this union four children were born. The oldest daughter,
Mrs. Faye Ragains, preceded him in death several years ago.
He is survived by a loving companion and three children, namely:
Mrs. Maye Modglin, Normal, IL; Mrs. Lillian Wells, Simpson, Rodney
Butler, Paducah, Ky. He is survived by 16 grandchildren and 25
great-grandchildren.
He accepted Christ as his Saviour at an early age and joined the
County Line Baptist church, and to this church he was always a
faithful member and became active in the church work. He was
a Deacon at the time of his death.
He was a kind and loving husband and father and devoted much to
his home and family, and was very fond of his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Alonzo chose farming as his life's ambition, and was successful
in his efforts until his health forced him to retire. He spent
most of his life in this community. He was a good neighbor always
ready to lend a helping hand to those in need and for anything
that would make the community and church a better place to live.
He possessed a jovial disposition, always looking on the brighter
side of life, and he will be sadly missed by all his relatives
and many friends.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 29, 1960 at 1:30
pm at the County Line Baptist church with the Rev. Joe Evitts
officiating with interment in the Kerley Cemetery. Rottman Funeral
Service in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were: Ray Butler,
Bill Wells, Bob Modglin, Larry Modglin, Maurice Wells, and Lowell
Ragains.
