Sarah Kerley Caldwell

Sarah Kerley Caldwell was born near Frankfort Heights, Illinois, Sept. 24, 1865. She was the daughter of Dr. Daniel W. and Nicey Kerley. Aunt Sarah, as she was affectionately known by many, answered the call of the death angel Feb. 22, 1940, at the home of her son, Harold at Simpson, Ill., at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 28 days.
At the age of eighteen she professed faith in Christ and united with the Simpson Baptist church where she remained a member throughout her life.
On Oct. 23, 1888 she was united in marriage with Alvin Kerley. To this union were born four children, three boys and one girl, Frank Kerley of Benton; Harold and James Kerley and Mrs. Flossie Williams of Simpson. The husband preceded her in death thirty two years ago.
Later she was married to A. J. Caldwell, who also preceded her in death. Besides the children, she leaves 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
It will be well remembered by her children and neighbors, that she had been a real mother to two of her grandchildren, Shirley and Mary Lou Kerley, since the death of their mother three years ago. Thus a good life has been closed here on earth and the beginning of a more full life with her Lord and Master. Peace to her memory.
Funeral services were conducted at Simpson Baptist church by Rev. Ernest Ammon with interment at the Kerley cemetery.
