Oscar Toler
Oscar Toler, son of William C. and Tobiatha
Toler, was born in Johnson County, Illinois on March 28,1887 and
life ebbed away in the darkened shadows of the evening on December
25, 1953 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., at
the age of 66 years, 8 months and 27 days.
Youthful, pioneer training taught Mr. Toler the meaning of his
simple place in life _ love of home and his fellowman.
In early manhood he was married and to this union three surviving
sons were born. The ties of wedlock were broken some twenty years
ago by the passing of his companion. On March 11, 1943 he was
united in marriage to Leora Morris of Simpson, Illinois. Through
the remaining years of life this couple saw the roses of hope
and the sunshine of cheer together.
Mr. Toler professed faith in Christ in his youth. His daily life
materialized his belief in thatDivine Power above. He first united
with the Methodist Church, later moving his membership to the
County Line Baptist Church in Flatwoods, where he remained a faithful
member.
He entered the hospital on November 28, 1953. Although all that
the skills of medical science and loved ones could do, was done,
God beckoned and sent His angel to bear him to that rest that
passeth knowledge _ a land that is free from tears _ where his
cross was exchanged for a crown.
He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife; his aged mother,
Tobiatha Toler, Chaffee, Mo., three sons, Afton Leo at Anna hospital,
Carl Glenn in the United States Navy, whose home address is Fall
River, Mass., and Marion O. Toler, whose address is unknown; two
sisters, Laura Shaw of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Myrtle Wilson
of Chaffee, Mo.; twenty grandchildren and sixteen gret-grandchildren
and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at one o'clock at
Simpson Baptist Church with Rev. Arthur Dunn officiating and Rev.
Mizell Grant assisting. Interment was at Buzbee Cemetery.
