Charles Brown, Sr.

Died, at his home, five miles north of Golconda, Wednesday morning, May 7 of heart failure, Charles Brown, Sr., aged 60 years, 3 months and 5 days. Deceased was born February 2, 1842, on the same farm on which he died.

On the 5th of May, 1864, he enlisted in Company G, Sixth Illinois Cavalry, his commanding officer being Captain Glass. In Nov. 1864, he was mustered out of the service as third corporal. He was first married, May 3, 1866, to Miss Mary J. Weekly. They were permitted to live together but a short while, when she was called home. He then married Miss Sarah M. Floyd, Nov. 27, 1877, who survives him. Their union was blessed with four children, two sons and two daughters, two of whom still survive.

He was a member of Golconda Post No. 332, G. A. R., and a faithful member of the M.E. Church at Bethesda, at which place funeral services were conducted by Rev. Maynor, of Eddyville. The remains were taken to the cemetery, where the G. A. R. conducted the service. He leaves a
wife, two sons, three sisters, one brother and a host of friends to mourn his loss.

Oh, where is our brother dear?
Gone home to mansions bright and fair.
No more he'll shed the bitter tear.
He is happy in his mansion there.

No more we'll meet him here below;
His toils and sacrifices are o'er.
And by the river's gentle flow,
He stands upon the Golden Shore.

But though we'll meet him here no more,
Yet we may meet with him at last,
And when we sing our troubles o'er,
When all life's labors here are past.

Farewell, dear brother, till we meet
Before the throne of God above,
And cast our crown at Jesus feet
And sing the triumph of his live.

ORA WEEKLY.
