Vincie Shelton Kerley
Vincie Shelton Kerley, daughter of George
R. and Maryann Modglin Shelton, was born near Grantsburg, Illinois,
December 31, 1885 and departed this life March 16, 1965, age 79
years, 3 months and 17 days.
On August 19, 1906 she was united in marriage to Rev. Conard O.
Kerley and walked by his side through more than 52 years of devoted
companionship, sharing with him the trials and heartaches, as
well as the victories and joys, that always befall the life of
a minister.
To this union four children were born, three of whom survive,
namely, Paul and Lindolph of her home community ( Flatwoods) and
Mrs. Imogene Butler of Paducah, Ky. One son, Coy, died at age
two years. She also leaves one son-in- law; two daughters - in-law;
four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who love her dearly.
Also, one sister, Mrs. Orlie Harper of Decatur, GA; three brothers,
Charles Shelton of Simpson; Ira W. Shelton of Troy, Ohio; and
Alger L. Shelton of Modesta, Calif., and a host of other relatives
and friends who are saddened by her passing.
Conard, Vincie, and Coy Kerley are buried in the Kerley cemetery
near Flatwoods, Johnson County.
