Amanda Hall Baker

Mrs. Amanda Baker, daughter of James Hall, was born in Bracken County, Ky., April 5, 1848, and died at her home, in Golconda, Ill., Feb. 17, 1923, aged, 74 years, 10 months and 12 days.
She was married to James N. Baker Feb. 7, 1894. No children came to bless this union, but she took to her heart the eight motherless children of Mr. Baker - four boys and four girls- and gave them the tender care and love of a mother. So well and faithfully did she do her part by them that the five still living say she was to them all a mother could be.
Mr. Baker died July 30, 1914.
She was converted in early life, and was a member of the M. E. church of Golconda at the time of her death.
She leaves to mourn her departure five foster children, Herbert E. Baker, Golconda; John W. Baker, Fulton, Ky; S. B. Baker, Silvis, Ill.; Mrs. Lena Hendrickson, Golconda. One brother, J. W. Hall, Georgetown, Ill., and a host of relatives and friends.
The funeral was conducted at her late home by the writer, and the remains laid to rest in the Odd Fellow Cemetery. _T. O. Holley
