Curtis Abbott

The death angel made a sudden call for Curtis Abbott, son of Quillen Theodore and Sarah Abbott, born March 11, 1881 at his father's farm home 2 miles east of Grantsburg.
Funeral services were held at the home of his son, Dee Abbott, at 11 o' clock Monday, March 4th, conducted by Rev. Hearty B. Stoltz. Music furnished by the Wilson Quartet. Interment was made at the Kerley cemetery.
As the years of childhood passed by and time began to unfold its pages to him, he gained a new vision of life and began to examine the future to find his place in the world. On July 21, 1902 he was married to Rebecca Jane Guinn. To this union two children were born, Floyd and Dee. The infant son, Floyd, one brother, Jesse and two sisters, Rella Mae and Bettie, have preceded him in death.
Fifteen years ago he moved to his farm in Flatwoods, Johnson County, and soon found the way into the hearts of his neighbors and friends. His home was always a home of welcome to all.
When he had finished his work on the morning of March 2, 1094, he probably did not realize that death was reaching with a swift hand for his life. But the powers of the universe had erected a fierce tornado, that swept a narrow path of the earth, and before he had gained shelter from its destructive anger he was suddenly stricken to death at 12 o' clock noon, within a few yards of his home. He had often said to his family and some of his friends, that he was ready to go and was not afraid to die.
His life has become a complete unchangeable record at the age of 58 years, 11 months and 21 days. What he has recorded no one can erase.
Those who will miss him greatly are his loving companion, a son, Dee Abbott of Flatwoods; three brothers, Ossa and Ed of Grantsburg; and Luther of Sikeston, Mo.; four grandchildren and a great number of relatives and friends.
