Felix Grundy Lewis

Felix Grundy Lewis, son of Joseph Lacy and Nancy Lewis, was born August 15th, 1851. He was one of four children all of whom preceded him in death. On February 16th, 1876, he married Miss Susan Elizabeth Dixon who passed away to her reward, March 7th, 1929. To this union five children were born. the first, a son, and the fourth, Carrie died in infancy and Nellie died at age sixteen. His children, Charles M. Lewis of Brownfield, and Mrs. Abner Field of Golconda, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive him.
In 1918 he united with the Baptist church in Brownfield, dating his conversion to an earlier date remaining a zealous member of that body until his death.
He lived his life near his birthplace among friends who knew him well and respected him for his sterling qualities.
He was always active in community advancement, be it religious or industrial. He helped organize the First State Bank in Brownfield and served as director and vice-president, but his greatest pleasure in business came from his stock-raising projects and increased production of crops on his farm.
He passed away September 5th, 1932, fatigued with age at the home of his daughter where he had been confined to his bed since December of last year. Through all these months he was an example of patience and often sang the good old religious hymns which he loved and expressed preparedness for that vast forever.
Funeral services were held at the Brownfield Baptist church by Elder E. R. Steagall of Harrisburg, a former pastor, assisted by Elders C. Ray and Adolph Chrisman with internment at the Lewis cemetery.
In his passing the community lost a good friend and a hospitable citizen.
