John Jacob Towns

John Jacob Towns, was born in Pope County on August 20, 1900, the son of John and Mollie Barger Towns, and departed this life on September 19, 1961 in the Hardin County General Hospital in Rosiclare, Ill.
He spent most of his early life as a farmer in Pope County, Illinois, and for the past 13 years he resided in Chicago, Ill., and worked for the International Harvester Company.
On October 1, 1922 he was married to Iva Marie Carter and to this happy union was born one son, James W. Towns.
Often expressing his faith in Christ as his Savior he attended church at Mt. Olivet Church in Pope County though he never joined any particular church.
Surviving him are his wife, Iva, of Golconda; one son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Towns of Golconda, one sister, Mrs. Opal Hager of Cromwell, Ind. and six grandchildren, and six grandchildren, and one aunt, Mrs. Charles B. Hines, Eldorado.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 21, at 2:00 p. m. at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Golconda, with the Rev. John L. Cox of Brownfield officiating. Burial was in Towns cemetery, Pope County with Rottman Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
Serving as pallbearers were: John Lentz, Clifford Rose, Lewis Glen Allen, Kestner Buchanan, Walter Rambo, Roy Colbert, and Joe Henson.
