George Hogg
George Hogg, son of Thomas and Julia Hogg, was born in Pope
County, near Herod, on November 29, 1884; departed this life at
the same farm home, August 17, 1951, at the age of 66 years, nine
months and 12 days.
On October 5, 1905, he was married to Effie Bebout. For almost
46 years they have lived happily together, sharing their joys
and sorrows. Their home was blessed with 8 children of which two
of them precede him in death, one in infancy, the other, Pheve
Weatherington at the age of 29 years.
He professed faith in Christ several years ago, but did not unite
with any church, although he was of the Baptist faith. He said
several times during his illness that he was ready to go.
He is survived by his wife, Effie, and the following children:
Ethel Sheldon and Julia Hogg of Anna, Mrs. Mary Hogy of Eichorn,
Frances at home, Tessie Weathington of Herod, and Charles of Herod;
a;lso 12 grandchildren, one brother, James Hogg, one sister, Mrs.
Sarah Vaughn of Rosiclare, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Two brothers, John and Hosea Hogg, preceded him in death a few
years ago. He was a devoted husband, a good father, and will
be greatly missed by his family as well as all others who knew
him.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at Mt. Pleasant church
by Rev. Matthew Roberts. Pallbearers for Mr. Hogg were: Ervin
Riggs, Jimmie Ferrell, McKinley Vaughn, John Vaughn, Thomas Hogg
and John Weatherington. Serving as flower girls were: Janie Vaughn,
Wanda Ferrell, Edith Vaughn, Ruby Sheldon, Mervin Weatherington,
Rosemary Vaughn, Pearl Riggs and Mina Carter.
Singers were: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hicks, Nina and Evelyn Mae Hubbard.
