James Gilbert Hogg
"The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want"
James Gilbert, the son of Thomas and Julia Hogg, was born
in Pope County, Illinois on December 12, 1873. Almost all of
his life was spent on the same farm, until the passing of his
beloved wife, Susannah, in March of 1951. He then was taken
to the the home of his son, Freeman, to be cared for until his
death claimed him on Oct. 22, 1951 at the age of 77 years, 10
months and 10 days.
Uncle Jim, as he was so often called, was an energtic, ambitious
and unselfish man, working early and late, tilling the soil to
support a family of nine children. Four of his children preceded
him in death.
Those of his family who survive him are: two sons, Thomas of Harrisburg,
Ill., and Freeman of Eichorn, Ill., three daughters, Lottie Butler
of Golconda, Ill., Lillie Bebout of Herod, Ill., and Laura Butler
of Farmersville, Ill., thirty grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
An only sister survives, Sarah Vaughan of Rosiclare, Ill., also
survives. Many more distant relatives, friends and neighbors
mourn this loss.
Life's race was run
Life's work well done
Life's crown well won
Now comes rest.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Elmer Collier, were held
at the Rottman Funeral Home Chapel, at 2:00 o'clock Wednesday
afternoon. Burial was in the family cemetery, known as the Hogg
cemetery.
