Henrietta Broadway

Henrietta Broadway, daughter of Caroline and Daniel Walker, was born April 8, 1843; died in Pope county, Ill., August 3, 1926, aged 83 years, 3 months and 29 days. The subject of our sketch was married to John Broadway October 22, 1866, and to this union were born two children, Dr. R. O. Broadway, who died December 6th, 1925 and Mrs. M. Hart, of Vienna, Ill. While she has only the one surviving child, she raised two orphan children and partly raised two other children. Her home was open to orphan children and not only them, but anyone in need or distress. Sister Broadway was converted in early life and joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Eddyville, as a charter member, she being the last of that loyal host to depart. She died as she has lived in the triumph of a living faith. She was true to her church, a generous giver to the gospel. She made all her funeral arrangements then told them not to weep for her.
Truly a mother of Israel has fallen. She leaves to mourn her death an aged companion, one loving daughter, 10 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Hence the ending of a long, useful and beautiful life.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. R. Reid, after which the body was laid to rest in the New Liberty cemetery to await the resurrection.
