Robert N. Wright

Robert N. Wright, son of James Glenn Wright and Nancy Anderson Wright, was born December 17, 1839. He was born in Township 12, Range 5 of Pope County, about 1/2 miles from where he passed away on February 20, 1934, at the age of 94 years, 2 months and 3 days.
He joined the Army at the very beginning of the Civil War, joining Company A at the 120th regiment of the Illinois volunteers. On the 29th day of October, 1862, he was commissioned to Second Lieutenant, by Richard Yates and Adjutant General Fuller. He served faithfully his duties and was honorably discharged because of disabilities. He came home and on November 5, 1865 he was married to Rachel Druscilla Anderson, who preceded him in death, July 2, 1897. This union was blessed with seven children: Francis E., who died at the age of 10 years; four children who died in infancy; James F. who was with him when he passed away, and Henry Alonzo, who proceeded him in death, May 26, 1932. He was again married to Rebecca Cole on February 20, 1898, who survives him.
"Uncle" Rob, as he was fondly called by a great host of friends, led a long and useful life, serving faithfully his home, family and his friends, his country in time of war. He was a very devoted citizen to his community. One of his greatest pleasures was attending "The Old Soldier's Reunion" meeting his comrades and friends. He was a regular attendant, being one of the 5 to register in August of 1933. He professed faith in Christ many years ago and his life speaks for itself by the high esteem held for him by his many friends. He was a patient sufferer, never complaining his lot, but ever expressing his readiness to leave.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Rebecca, and two sisters, Mary Jane Cooper, of Brownfield, Margaret Cavitt, of New Burnside, and one son, James F. of Brownfield; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three step- children, Ethel Fulkerson, Lola Underwood, of East St. Louis, and Thomas Cole, of Ozark; also 11 step-grandchildren, besides a number of nieces and nephews, and an unnumbered host of friends.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. Newt Rodgers.
