Matilda Cader-Jennings
Obituary _ Grandma Jennings
Mrs. Matilda Cader – Jennings departed this life December 3, 1924,
at the ripe old age of about 93 years. She was united in marriage to B.
T. Jennings and to this union 12 children were born, 8 of them preceding
her in death. The four surviving are: George, of Johnston City; Mrs. Mahala
Day, of Creal Springs; Angeline Williams, of Grantsburg; and B. F. Jennings,
of Carbondale. Her husband, Uncle Frank, as he was better known, passed
away March 24, 1903. They resided and reared their family on a farm near
Rock, Pope County, Ill. He was a shoemaker for many years. Aunt Tilda
assisted him in his work, doing most all the sewing and a lot of other
work. She lost her eyesight about 30 years ago and was deprived the pleasure
of viewing the faces of her loved ones and the beauties of nature. She
professed faith in Christ in early life and connected herself with the
Baptist church of which she remained a faithful member until death, which
occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mark Day, in Creal Springs.
She was loved and highly esteemed by all who knew her. Her remains were
taken to Mt. Zion Cemetery, Pope County, and buried by the side of her
faithful companion to await the glorious resurrection.
