Margery Sistler
Rodgers
Margery Sistler was born in Tennessee in 1849. She came to Pope
county in 1854 at the age of 5 years, and resided in and about Hodgeville
and Brownfield until about the age of 12. Then she lived about Mt. Zion
until her marriage to William Jefferson Rodgers on Dec. 21, 1871.
To this union were born 7 children _ 3 sons and 4 daughters _ of whom
2 sons and 3 daughters are yet living.
The death of her husband occurred June 9, 1898, leaving her to battle
through life with her 5 surviving children.
Margery Rodgers was a companion in the full sense of the word, a kind
and loving mother, looking at the bright side of things at all times and
ready to meet her many friends with a smile, a pleasant word of comfort
and good advice and cheer.
She professed faith in Christ at the age of 15 years.
She died September 27, 1924, aged 75 years, 6 months and 2 days. She always
lived a true Christian life and endured her suffering very patiently and
when all was done that kind and willing hands could do, she saw it was
the Lord’s will to call her to rest, she said, “ Dear children,
I am ready to go.” She will be greatly missed by her many friends
and loving children and leaves a vacant place that never can be filled.
The funeral took place at Mt. Zion church Monday, September 29th, at one
o’clock conducted by G. W. Parmley before a very large congregation,
whose presence proved the high esteem in which this lady was held.
