Shadrach W. Abbott

S. W. Abbott, better known to all as Shade Abbott, passed away June 7, 1943. He was the son of Cornelius and Rebecca Abbott and was born in Pope County, near Dixon Springs on October 15, 1864, having reached the age of 78 years, 7 months and 22 days.
On May 24th, 1896, he was married to Cora Mae Weike. For many years this devoted couple enjoyed the graces and blessing that was destined to be theirs from the consumation of a happy marriage. Being pleased with the love and devotion of one son and three daughters, they prided themselves as fortunate parents as these loving children proved themselves men and women of character, ability and intelligence and with an abounding love for their beloved father and mother.
The greatest trial of his life came on November 9th, 1942, when he was suddenly bereft of his companion in whom he had placed complete dependence. Her devotion to him during the long years of his physical weakness, so endeared her to him that during his last months his thoughts, and prayers were to join her in her heavenly home. This wish was granted to him on Monday, June 7th, 1943.
No one denominational church claimed his membership, but in 1905 he professed faith in God and his fair dealing, his forthright beliefs and his everyday practices, proved he was a man of Christian thoughts, one who enjoyed the teachings of the Almighty God and His commandments.
Those of his immediate family, who are doubly grieved in so soon being separated from both mother and dad, are Earl of Golconda, Myrtle Sistler, of Golconda, Jessie Voslow, of Brownfield, and Lola Gille, of Peoria, Illinois. Six grandchildren will cherish the memory of a loving grandfather. Leaving to mourn the loss of a brother are, George Abbott, of Fowler, Colorado, Charlie, of Delta, Missouri, Jasper, of Denver, Colorado, and John of Goreville, Illinois. Other relatives and friends are saddened by his passing.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock from the Mt. Zion Baptist church with Rev. N. D. Story, assisted by Rev. George Phelps, officiating. His body was laid to rest in the Mt. Zion cemetery by the side of his companion, who passed away only seven months before Mr. Abbott’s going. _____obituary copied.
