Richard Monroe Rumsey
Rev. Richard Monroe Rumsey was born at Atlanta,
GA, April 17, 1856;
departed this life Dec. 23, 1923, aged 67 years, 8 months and 6 days.He
was married
to Margaret Reams Dec. 25, 1878. To this union four children were born,
namely:
Claude Douglas, Opha Otto, who died in infancy, Mary Pherthine Moyers
and
Samuel Ernest, who survive him.
Bro. Rumsey professed faith in Christ at an early
age, at New Liberty C.P.
church and united with that church, but later moved his membership to
Pleasant
Hill C.P. church, where he was called to the ministry, and immediately
he
prepared for the great work , and long years he labored until the Lord
said, "Come
unto Me ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you."
In Dec. 1909, his loving companion preceded him
to the glory world, where we
believe they are at rest together. In 1911 he was married to Mrs. Lila
King,
who preceded him to the beyond Jan. 2, 1923.
Rev. Rumsey was loyal to his God and church and
Labored hard until he was
sore afflicted and could no longer go out in the great field of the Lord,
but we
believe his whole heart's desire was to do the Lord's will.
He leaves to mourn his death, two children, Mary
Moyers, of Eddyville, Ill.,
and Ernest Rumsey, of Brownfield, Ill., and an orphan girl, Mrs. Peggy
Wilkins
Bailey, and four brothers, namely: John, Elias, Fields, and Seth, and
four
sisters: Ella Linson, Sinda Saylors, Nan Whiteside, Angeline Frieze, and
a host
of relatives and friends. But we feel that our loss is heaven's gain.
Funeral services were conducted by Revs. J.R.
Reid and A.L. Aplin, after
which the remains were laid to rest in the New Liberty cemetery.
