Fred Rexer
Fred Rexer, son of John F. and Joanna Williamson Rexer,
was born
February 21, 1899, and departed this life December 12,1975, in the
Hardin County General Hospital, Rosiclare, Ill. In the year 1920,
he was united in marriage to Grace Cowsert, who passed away in 1952. He
later married Birdie Shetler in 1953. She too, was taken by death in August
of
1951. He then married Ethel Randolph in 1962. Besides his wife, Ethel,
he leaves two sisters, May Robertson of Carmi, Illinois, and Mayme
Adkins of Carbondale, Illinois; and one brother, John, of Golconda,
Illinois; one nephew, Ran Robertson and one niece, Frances Abbey, both
of
Carmi, Illinois. Though he had no children of his own, he was stepfather
of seven, namely: Aletha Thomasson of Golconda, Helen Ruth Switzer,
Henderson, KY; Bob Randolph, Murray, Ky.; Bill Randolph, Cape Girardeau,
MO;
Noveta Larson of Rockford, Ill.; James Randolph, Metropolis, Ill.; and
Wanda Slagel of Golconda, Ill. and 13 step-grandchildren.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Golconda, Ill., where he
performed his duties faithfully as a Deacon and a teacher of the Fishers
of Men Sunday School Class, until ill health
prevented. He was an Oddfellow, having joined Golconda Lodge No. 292,
July 17, 1940,
and he was Secretary of this Order for several years until his health
failed.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec.14, in the First
Baptist Church with the Rev. Stanley R. Langham and the Rev. Gale Harper
in charge. Burial was in Oddfellows Cemetery by the Rottman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Harold Thomassson, Donald
Stone, Paul Quertermous, Don Laster, Arthur Truitt and Norman Harris.
Honorary Pallbearers were Ralph Stone, Raleigh Cletcher, Coy Randolph,
Charles Forman, Max Kohlsdorf and Bill Kohlsdorf.
