Susan Elizabeth Gullett

Susan Elizabeth Gullett, daughter of John and Isabel Gullett was born
March 23, 1849, near Golconda, Illinois, where she grew to womanhood and
was married to James Hamilton in 1865. To this union four children were
born: Elmina J.; Robert M.; Paralee I.; and Florence M., all living.
Her husband died leaving her with the four children when they
were small.
She was again married December 6th, 1883, to J. W. Climer to
which union five children were born, three of whom are living: Lanora,
Aaron and Mary Alice.
She was converted early in life, and joined the Cumberland
Presbyterian church at Sulphur Springs, later removing her membershp to
Palestine C. P. church where she remained a faithful member, and
stalwart Christian, until Friday morning, May 8, 1931, when the Lord
called her from her suffering, and her sweet spirit wafted its way home
to God, while dying, there to walk the gold paved streets, and bask in
the sunshine of the presence of her savior whom she dearly loved. She
was aged 82 years, 1 month, 15 days.
She leaves to mourn their loss, seven children, Mrs. Elmina
McDonald, Robert Hamilton, Mrs. Paralee McDonald, Mrs. Florence King,
all of Pope county, Mrs. Lanora Anderson of Pontiac, Ill., Mrs. Alice
Hacker of Joliet, Ill., and Aaron Climer who lived with and cared for
her during her last years. Her last husband preceded her in death
several years ago.
She also leaves eighteen grandchildren, eleven
great-grandchildren, two brothers, Thos. and Albert Gullett, and a host
of friends who will miss her: "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the
death of his saints," "O death, where is thy sting?" O, grave where is
thy victory?"

Safe in the arms of Jesus.
Safe on his gentle breast.
There by his love o'er shaded.
Sheetly her soul shall rest.

Funeral was conducted at Sulphur Springs, Saturday May 9th at 11
a.m. by Rev. M.C. Wasson, assisted by Rev. Attey, after which the body
was laid to rest under a mound of beautiful flowers.
