Lucian Lloyd Belford
The man who was known as "the best welder in
Southern Illinois,"
Lucian Lloyd Belford, 71, Rt. 1, Brownfield, died at 12, noon, Saturday,
July 19,1975 at Western Baptist Hospital, Paducah, Ky after a long illness.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, at the Dixon
Springs Christian Church, with the Rev. Sam Bousman officiating. Burial
was in Shedville Cemetery.
Mr. Belford was born in Pope County, November 12, 1903, the son
of William and Dora Flick Belford.
On September 8, 1928, he was married to Lillian Hemphill, who
survives.
His early life was spent in construction work and he was a
charter member of Carpenters Local 605. He recently was awarded a
35-year service pin.
He later established a welding shop, and gained an enviable
reputation for his ability to work with metals.
He was a member of the Dixon Springs Christian Church, and was
active until his health began to fail.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian; two daughters, Ann
Kingsley, Homberg, Ill., and Frances Wedgewood, Chicago; three sons,
William Belford of McHenry, Ky and Lloyd and James Belford, Rural Route
Golconda; one sister, Nellie Taylor of Route 1, Golconda and 17
grandchildren.
Aly Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were: Rayford Billington, J.W.Cletcher, Fred Kerley,
Walt Hemphill, Steve Bowman, Mike Bowman, David Hollingue, and Deason
Street.
Honorary pallbearers: A.E.Halter, Wayne Barger, Clarence
Bailey, Roby Maynor, Earl Abbott, Dick Taylor
