Farmer’s and Merchant’s Market
in Pope County during the early 1900's featured
the following activities: ( Does anyone know the rules?)
Chair quoit, women.
Dart throwing, women.
Clock golf, women.
Rifle shooting, women.
50 yard dash, boys under 12.
50 yard dash, boys over 12.
50 yard dash, girls under 12.
50 yard dash, girls over 12.
12:00 noon, basket dinner.
Afternoon:
Rolling pin throwing, women.
Boys’ bicycle race.
Fat man’s race, over 200 pounds.
Slim man’s race, 6 feet tall, under
200 lbs.
Sack race, boys under 15.
Sack race, boys over 15.
Couples race.
Potato race for girls.
Base ball throwing.
Hog calling, men.
Husband calling, women.
Tug of war, merchants vs. farmers.
Soft ball game, farmers vs. merchants.
Bring well filled baskets and enjoy the
day with your neighbors to attend and let’s
make this the biggest and best farmers’ and
merchants’ picnic yet.
